Our first Orientation meeting for people interested in our project.

Our first Orientation meeting for people interested in joining our project.

We welcomed a good crowd at our Orientation Meeting on Sunday January 27th (thanks for hosting Mary Alice, and sorry there were more people than expected). We enjoyed meeting everyone who came very much and especially enjoyed answering your questions. We will be holding another one on February 10th so if you missed this one, you’ll have another chance soon. Contact us at futurevillagefarm@hotmail.ca if you’d like more details.

On Monday evening, we were given the opportunity to make a presentation at Sooke Region Food Chi Society’s Annual General Meeting.

Food Chi is a fantastic non-profit organization that promotes and fosters the local food movement in the Sooke Region. You can read all about them and their many successful initiatives here.

After an inspiring speech about community food security by Arzeena Hamir, an agronomist specializing in organic food production, Susan and Vivi took the stage.

This evening was a turning point for us because not only were we able to present our ideas to many like-minded folks who will ultimately be the community our ecovillage farm serves, it was the first time we’ve openly asked for donations. In public. Out loud.

It was nerve wracking, but thanks to Participating Supporter Mary Alice, the ball was officially rolling when she offered to match donations up to $1000!

Our first donation check! Thanks to Sooke Food Chi Members, we are 15% of the way to our goal of raising $60,000 in 60 days.

You’ll notice a new category in the bar above called ‘How to Help’. Please click it, have a look around and see if there’s anything you can do. Words can’t describe how much we’d appreciate it.
